Biography

Andreas Straub was born in 1941 and raised in Basle, Switzerland.

As a young man, he studied percussion at the Basle music conservatory and established himself as a freelance musician and fine artist. He works mainly in the Jura mountains of the Roman part of Switzerland – and in Spain.

Starting in the 1970s, he developed his oeuvre as a fine artist. His cycles revolve around landscape and environment, but also stem from socio-political issues. Strong stimuli come from study visits in the U.S.A. as an artist-in-residence of the Djerassi Foundation in Woodside, California, from the cultural exchange with Indonesia via the Museum der Kulturen in Basle, and from the observation of the sky on the Canary Islands.

Since 2001, Andreas Straub is exploring the topic of erosion – its geological and physical aspects, but also erosion in outer space. He pursues this artistic provocation with all available artistic means including computer-based technology.
